Toshiba to Trial 3DTV’s Without Glasses

Toshiba to Trial 3DTV's Without GlassesOne of the main draw backs of 3DTV’s is that  you need to wear glasses to watch the TV’s. There are two types of 3DTV’s being released at the moment active and passive 3DTV’s. The difference between these is, at a basic level, the type of glasses required to get the 3D effect. The active requires glasses that cost upto £100 while the other uses glasses that only cost about £1. There are obviously more differences in the TV’s including the price but the similarity is that you need glasses for both but now Toshiba are trialling a glasses free 3DTV which would be a major step forward for the technology.

Being able to get 3DTV without the need to wear glasses would make the technology hugely popular, not only from the point of view that people don’t want to sit in their own house, or a pub for that matter as we have seen with Sky’s trial, with a pair of glasses on to watch the TV. There are a lot of problems that need overcome including being able to view from multiple angles but Toshiba think they have got around this with their LTPS technology.

If Toshiba can get this technology released then they could grab a huge segment of the market with 3D already starting to gain popularity in the UK but many still wary of having to buy additional glasses.
