The new Google service will be available on a number of brands with Sony and Logitech already signing up to the service. There is a focus on the ‘TV meets the web. Web meets TV’ so there is huge excitement that a lot of great services will be available through the TV and for advertisers the new that you can’t fast forward adverts has come as a huge boost.

At the moment there is huge concern in the advertising world that adverts are being missed by consumers with them always trying to skip and fast forward them. However it is unlikely that users will be as excited about the prospect with many now used to being able to fly past adverts.

Even with this though the initial rumblings would seem to indicate that the Google TV service will be very well received.

There are a number of hard core tech followers that will of course all ready have pre-ordered their new 3DTV’s but many will be waiting to see if the technology really takes off and if their ends up being a winner between the different forms of 3DTV’s that are out there at the moment.

Sony however, as you would expect, are encouraging people to buy their new TV’s that are launched on the 12th of June with a cheeky TV ad.

Their latest advert which includes Kaka, a string man, a sports car burning out and an exploding goalmouth is shot is fuzzy fake 3D and warns you that your TV is not broken and advises ‘Maybe it’s time to buy a 3D TV.”

The new Sony ad will be launched to coincide with the opening match of the World Cup.

Details are sketchy at the moment about what  plans are for the plans are for the worlds biggest search engine yet but the rumours are doing the rounds that the new Intel atom chip, nicknamed Dragonpoint, is to be put into the new Sony TV’s to allow them to run Google TV with their also being a rumour that the new Sony TV’s will run a modified Google Android software.

More announcements are expected later in the ear with Samsung also said to be working  closely with Google.

Samsung are releasing large screen 3DTV’s this year but have announced that in 2011 they will release 32″ and 37″ versions of their 3DTV’s.

“The smallest 3DTV we have at the moment is 40 inch, but once we introduce 200Hz panels to our 32- and 37-inch TV range we will have smaller 3DTVs,” explained the Samsung spokesperson.

“It’s likely that next year we will have these smaller TVs on sale.”

When asked whether the size of the panel would effect the 3D viewing expiring, the spokesperson did note: “The bigger the screen, the better the effect. But it all does rely on how far you sit from the screen. We always recommend with 3D that you sit twice the length of the diameter of the TV you are watching.”

Prices have yet to be announced for the new models but it could make the technology more affordable and increase it’s popularity.

Being able to get 3DTV without the need to wear glasses would make the technology hugely popular, not only from the point of view that people don’t want to sit in their own house, or a pub for that matter as we have seen with Sky’s trial, with a pair of glasses on to watch the TV. There are a lot of problems that need overcome including being able to view from multiple angles but Toshiba think they have got around this with their LTPS technology.

If Toshiba can get this technology released then they could grab a huge segment of the market with 3D already starting to gain popularity in the UK but many still wary of having to buy additional glasses.

Whether Panasonic were being cautious with their first production or whether the demand has just far exceeded expectations the company has responded quickly to the demand of customers.

“We’ve had a very strong reaction,” he said Hirotoshi Uehara the head of Panasonics TV Business, “Our plasma panel factory is at full capacity but we’ve increased 3D panel production by 30 per cent compared to our original plan.”

“My thinking is that 3D shouldn’t just be limited to broadcast television, it should reach a range of industries, such as video conferencing or PowerPoint presentations. That in turn will boost the size of the [market].”

Panasonic are certainly feeling very positive about the technology at the moment so the coming year will be interesting to see if the technology goes from strength to strength.

The new set of adverts for Samsung will be lead by Mikah Martin-Cruz who was responsible for some of the most iconic adverts for Sony including the paint adverts for the Bravia.

Martin-Cruz said that: “The launch of the first 3D TV in the UK is such a culturally significant event, we needed to do it justice with a visually exciting campaign that captures the audience’s imagination and feel we have done exactly that.”

Samsung are hoping that their new adverts can attract more consumers with their 3DTV’s going on sale on the 27th of April.

What Sony have organised the update for is to make the PS3 compatible with 3D games but not blu-rays although this will eventually happen.

Sony have plans to release 4 games in 3D in June Wipeout, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, PAIN and Super Stardust.

Although Sony are going to update the PS3 consoles for free to make them compatible with the new 3D Blu-rays it will be a disappointment to many PS3 owners planning to buy a 3DTV but save on the cost if the 3D Blu-ray player.

This news means that Sony will have both the HX803 and the LX903 out in the market place this summer.  Both of the3DTV’s use active 3D glasses which means that additional glasses will be quite expensive.

“Built upon Sony’s very latest 200Hz high frame rate technology that allows viewers to see 3D in full High Definition 1080p fidelity, the High Definition 3D image is further enhanced with the inclusion of ‘High Speed Precision, ‘LED Boost’ and ‘3D up conversion’, three technologies unique to Sony and designed to make the 3D image even clearer and brighter and the 3D experience even more exciting,” said Sony’s release.

Sony has also confirmed that it will be bundling ‘exclusive 3D Blu-ray disc movies with selected Sony 3DTVs and Blu-ray players’ as well as bundling Playstation games in with the TV’s.

The first Sony 3D blu-ray to get released with be Cloudy With A chance Of Meatballs and it will be available in Germany first. There will also be a 2D version of the film which will be 9 Euros cheaper than the 3D version which is going to make the 3D version a very expensive movie.

The release date for Cloudy With A chance Of Meatballs is set for June the 1st with the UK release date yet to be confirmed.
