Sky think that the ruling will not only harm them but harm British sports.

“I think Ofcom’s decision is likely to hit British sport where it hurts,” said Jermey Darroch Sky’s Chief Executive.

“I think their actions are likely to drive down the value of TV sports channels and reduce competition in the marketplace.”

“Certainly, businesses that have so far shown little appetite to invest in sports I think will be less likely to do so if they can get access to Sky’s channels at a risk free, knock down price governed by the regulator.

“And I think that risk is undermining the virtuous cycle that’s been created in British sport over the last few years with sustained investment, much of it from broadcast TV rights, that’s really flowed through at all levels and has had positive effects right through sports.

“That’s one of the reasons why the sports governing bodies in particular I think are concerned about the decision – and with good reason.”

Sky have recently invested considerable in 3DTV technology and a 3D TV channel with them having installed 1000 LG 3DTV’s in various pubs around the country to promote the new technology. The limitations put on Sky as to what they charge for their sports package could see them limit these types of activity in the future.

Previously it had been thought that LG would only release the active 3DTV’s to consumers with the passive ones would only be for pubs and the likes but they have announced that, due to consumer demand they will release both the LF7900 and the LD360 ranges to the consumer market.

“We had great success trialling the passive TVs in pubs in collaboration with Sky and this is set to continue in April, starting with the Manchester Utd Vs Chelsea match this weekend.

“Although the LD920 range was primarily to be used by Sky to showcase its 3D football, we had been getting letters about the passive tech from consumers, asking when it will launch in the home.

“This is why we will be launching the 47-inch LD360 in the home, starting from the end of May.”

“When it comes to passive 3D, the glasses can be sold for as little as £1 while the screens are more expensive, due to the polarisation of the screen.

“You may find couples but the more expensive active glasses and screen while those with bigger families may opt for the cheaper glasses option.”

Although there does seem to be a good reason for releasing both types of 3DTV it is likely to lead to some confusion from some consumers.

The LG EL9500 is a 15″ screen with 1366×768 resolution and it is priced at a cool £1970.

This is a bit pricey for only a 15 inch TV but if you have the money then the resolution is one of the best available and with the TV only being a very impressive 1.7mm think then the LG TV will certainly look very impressive.

The LX9900 will be available in both 47″ and 55″ screen dimensions are are full LED. The TV’s come with TruMotion 400Hz technology to make the images super smooth.

The LX9900 has Freeview HD inside, offers a 10,000,000:1 Dynamic contrast ratio and 4x HDMI 1.4 ports.

And the LX9900 will be web-enabled too. Using LG’s Netcast technology, you will be able to pick up apps for YouTube, Picasa and Accu Weather.

The LG 3DTV’s are set for release in May with the price yet to be confirmed. Unfortunately the 3D glasses will not be included with the TV so you may need to pay upto £100 extra for each pair.

LG have announced that their flagship 3D TV which was unveiled earlier this year at CES, will not be available to purchase in the UK.

The Korean manufacturers have backtracked on plans to release the LG LD360 3D LED TV to consumers this April.

The 47 inch LCD TV – compatible with services such as the new Sky 3D TV channel, was scheduled for launch next month and only last month was touted as the start of a new wave of 3D TV’s.

At the time, an LG spokesman boasted:

“One of the biggest trends in TV in the coming years is certainly set to be 3D and LG is making its first 3D TV (LD360) available to consumers in April 2010.”

No further details are available, but Samsung are likely to be grinning from ear to ear, as their 9000 Series will be among the leaders in the race of 3D TV launches in 2010.

Austria will be the first country to receive the EL9600 OLED panel TV in May, as LG look to expand their latest TV technology.

Previously, only Sony, with their XEL-1, provided an OLED TV for sale within Europe and this screen was only 11 inches big, despite costing around £3,000.

With Sony’s recent announcement that they will soon withdraw this product from the marketplace, it would leave the LG EL9500 OLED TV as the only one in the market.

The new model will also ‘only’ cost €1,999 (£1,750) when it arrives, which might sound a lot for a TV that only has a 1366×768 pixel count.

We’ve sadly not got a UK release date or price, but we’re hoping that it won’t be too long before this 15-inch TV is gracing our local Curry’s.

But inch-for-inch it’s a lot cheaper than Sony’s effort, and at 1.7mm thick, it may even provide enough wow factor when you try and explain to the other half why you spent so much on a new TV for the shed.

The South Korean based manufacturer – the countries third largest conglomerate – produce electronics, chemicals and telecommunications products and are the second largest manufacturers of LCD TVs in the world.

The new plasma TV set, branded by the company as the “Skinny Frame” range, will be available in both 50″ and 60″ screens.

The televisions boast three HDMI ports, USB connectivity options, and a refresh rate of 600Hz. The new 1080p TVs get their thin name because of the slim screen border that measures just under one inch (25mm) thick.

No release date has been set in the United Kingdom for these new televisions as of yet.

Manufacturers LG have announced that due to a huge upsurge in customer demand, they are planning to extend their LCD output.

The Korean firm are experiencing a sharp growth in the amount of LCD TV sales, which they are attributing to the recent Chinese New Year and the popularity of the Winter Olympics, which are dominated by Chinese athletes.

LG has noted that it may well build a new production line to keep up with demand, with the only thing holding the company back is the worry that while demand is high at the moment, this may eventually drop due to the cyclical nature of the industry.

“We are considering increasing capacity because we have been unable to meet all client demand for some time,” said a spokesperson at LG Display to Reuters.

“But nothing has been decided yet.”

The manufacturer is currently only able to delivery around 90% of it’s orders – a problem they hope to address with their new production line.

The company recently announced a new range of 3D TVs at CES 2010, a new technology which will be present on both it’s LCD and Plasma series.

The company is hoping to sell 3.4 million sets, making it the biggest provider of 3D TVs in the market.
