Samsung are releasing large screen 3DTV’s this year but have announced that in 2011 they will release 32″ and 37″ versions of their 3DTV’s.

“The smallest 3DTV we have at the moment is 40 inch, but once we introduce 200Hz panels to our 32- and 37-inch TV range we will have smaller 3DTVs,” explained the Samsung spokesperson.

“It’s likely that next year we will have these smaller TVs on sale.”

When asked whether the size of the panel would effect the 3D viewing expiring, the spokesperson did note: “The bigger the screen, the better the effect. But it all does rely on how far you sit from the screen. We always recommend with 3D that you sit twice the length of the diameter of the TV you are watching.”

Prices have yet to be announced for the new models but it could make the technology more affordable and increase it’s popularity.

The new set of adverts for Samsung will be lead by Mikah Martin-Cruz who was responsible for some of the most iconic adverts for Sony including the paint adverts for the Bravia.

Martin-Cruz said that: “The launch of the first 3D TV in the UK is such a culturally significant event, we needed to do it justice with a visually exciting campaign that captures the audience’s imagination and feel we have done exactly that.”

Samsung are hoping that their new adverts can attract more consumers with their 3DTV’s going on sale on the 27th of April.

TV manufacturer Samsung are placing high emphasis on sales of their new 3d TVs for 2010 after revealing aggressive sales targets.

The firm – the largest sellers of flat-screen televisions – announced on Thursday that it plans to sell over 2 million 3D LED backlit LCD Tvs globally this year.

Samsung have targeted sales of 10 million LED-backlit LCD models out of their total anticipated sales of 35 million LCD TVs, a figure which would almost quadruple the 2.6 million units sold last year.

“The 3D TV segment will be the main battleground for Samsung this year. The outlook is positive after checking consumer responses. Samsung predicts global 3D TV demand will rise by 3.5 million throughout this year,” Yoon Boo-keun, the president of the company’s visual display division, said in a press conference in Seoul.

Research firms’ sales forecasts for the global 3D market vary from 1 million to 6.5 million TVs in 2010.

“Some technology matters still remain for the better watching of 3D TV, but the market itself is highly lucrative. 3D TV is the top buzzword for our business in 2010, while LED-backlit LCD TV was last year’s,” according to Yoon.

He said Samsung has developed technology that converts 2D content to 3D that will give consumers an extra dimension even when 3D content is hard to find.

Since late last year, 3D has been receiving a major plug, with leading TV makers hoping to entice viewers with 3D TVs, Blu-ray players and glasses with which people can watch movies and play videogames.

The impressive success of “Avatar” and a number of other 3D movies at the box office throughout the year will help put the spotlight on the new technology, experts say.

Despite the massive interest in 3D on the part of leaders in the TV industry, limited content and technology-related matters are still seen as big challenges facing them.

The 3D effect is achieved when the eyes interpret two merged images as one. Blurring is increased by the special glasses but if they are not working properly, they can strain the eyes.

Yoon said Samsung has been in in-depth talks with several content providers to use the patented contents of its 3D LED-backlit LCD TVs to match up with the new strategy.

“Samsung is in talks with a few major content providers to boost sales, though we can’t further comment over the talks for the time being,” the executive said.

In 2009, it had struck an exclusive 3D content deal with Dreamworks Animation of the United States.

“For contents, we are talking with other terrestrial broadcasters and game developers for similar deals to raise the offerings of 3D content,” Kim Hyun-suk, a senior executive at the division, told The Korea Times.
